Gratitude Hymn

All that I’ve been wanting
is becoming less important.
What I have is enough
and sometimes tiresome.

The seasons now speak to me
with much more intimacy.
If I do not measure them,
but only anticipate them,
I can feel deep within
an easy coming and going.

Oh sacred breath,
I feel you down to my toes!
You show me all the spaces
I’ve closed off and try to forget.

If I regret anything,
it would be not knowing sooner;
though this would’ve deprived me
of precious and necessary suffering.

I cannot say it enough -
how much I love my life.
Feeling gratitude begs me ask,
What is mine to do?

It is through gratitude for the present moment that the spiritual dimension of life opens up.
