Space to Breathe

Everyone is at heel
to the system.
No one is spared,
not even the rich.

Have you ever given yourself
the space to breathe,
or to look more closely
into this world?

What you may see,
sees you objectively,
and expects you to willingly
submit to your fate.

There is nothing more powerful
in the human world
than to question the foundation
upon which any structure exists.

Power does not come
from a simple no or yes,
but from the ambiguous space between.

What might happen
if you admit you don’t know,
and ask for the space to breathe?

I saw myself sharp as a thorn.
I fled to the softness of petals.
