Straight Lines

I understand viscerally
contrast and repetition,
alignment and proximity.

These principles informed me
from my earliest days,
and have defined my habit
of creating straight lines.

I was taught over and over
not to see this world as it is,
but rather how it could be,
with everything symmetrical
and fitting just perfectly.

And yet God is mischievous,
lurking behind rounded corners,
luring us into lopsided shapes
called relationships.

The straight line belongs to men, the curved one to God.
