Simple Man

Simple Man

No complications here.

Again this morning,
I awoke too early,
worried about things
which cannot be remedied
with my worrying,
and may not need
a remedy at all.

How often I forget
the peace of not fixing,
of leaving everything
to this infinite moment
dripping with possibilities,
if I'd only get out of the way.

I didn't get into my body
to live in it forever.
It may be that I need
to feel sunlight on my face,
before becoming a spark
in some other galaxy.

Oh it's true,
so true,
we complicated people
long for the simplicity
buried at the core
of our being!

I hate American simplicity.
I glory in the piling up of complications of every sort.
If I could pronounce the name James
in any different or more elaborate way
I should be in favor of doing it.
Henry James
