The Middle

The Middle

...of somewhere.

Something comes
between the beginning
and the end.

Yes,
here I am
in the middle
of my life,
in the middle
of a story
with a forgotten beginning
and an uncertain ending.

This middle period
is fraught with fear
and lacks the clarity
of a classic novel
or an old movie.

Thus each morning
I summon wise spirits
to show me the way forward.

The one on my left says,
Fear nothing that dissolves in water.

The one on my right says,
You become what you love.

No matter how chaotic it is,
wildflowers will still spring up in the middle of nowhere.
~ Sheryl Crow
