Peace of Mind

...offers the freedom to be kind.

Nothing
speaks louder to me
than freedom -
not just the word,
but that feeling
of being absolutely without
responsibility,
obligation,
worry,
or any needs
gnawing away
at my peace of mind.

Sometimes I feel cornered,
so I retreat into anger
and begin to resent
all of the obvious beauty
ever-present in my life.

Without peace of mind
I may become unkind.
And I never want to be
anything other than kind.
