One Transcendence

One Transcendence

We get to share it.

This morning some will wake
already humbled by their humanity,
acutely aware of flesh, blood and bone,
and the urgency of this present moment.

Others will rise oblivious
to their hearts steady scheming
of when, where and how
to close that big purchase
which will deliver them tomorrow.

So many souls bound by the flesh,
and so many more distracted in thought,
yet all of our souls sitting on the doorstep
of one transcendence.

The spiritual life is not a life before, after,
or beyond our everyday existence.
No, the spiritual life can only be real
when it is lived in the midst of the pains
and joys of the here and now.
~ Henri Nouwen
