The Ancients

The Ancients

...saw the Spirit everywhere.

The Ancients knew God
lived three feet above their heads.
They would climb rocks
just to see as God sees,
and then jump into the air
grasping for leaves or fruit;
whatever God might offer them.
And when they became tired
or too old to jump and climb,
they would lie flat on the ground,
gaze up at the sun and the stars
and see God looking back.

Let others praise ancient times;
I am glad I was born in these.

~ Ovid

It is good to learn from the ancients.
I'm a bit of an ancient myself.
They had a lot of time to think about
architecture and landscape.

~ I. M. Pei
