Tell Me

Tell Me

In Spanish I'd say, "¡Digame!"

Don't bother me with the news.
It doesn't much matter
who said what,
the deal that was struck,
or even the seven-day forecast.

I want to go to that place
where the slow repetition of life
offers me a glimpse of eternity
without the illusion of permanency.

So tell me about your vacation,
how you noticed the tides
and can now recognize rain clouds
amassing on the horizon.

Tell me about waking up
to the chirp of a single cricket,
and how falling asleep felt
no different than being awake.

Tell me that peace is contagious
and beauty is everywhere.
Maybe you can point out other things
I'd also want to see and hear.

Slow down and think about the lessons of the elders.
