Cheers to the Misfits!
...and to the not-so-crazy ones.
I toast everyone
who doesn't quite fit
into the forms we are given,
whether that be a body,
or a job and family,or a country and culture,
or anything else that won't fit,
like a hand-me-down jacket
or a rented prom outfit.
Don't we all do our best
and just go along to get along?
First we celebrate change
with games and cakes and parties.
Then later we suppress change
with drugs and money and laws.
Those who are enemies of change
create monuments to their resistance,
while everyone else grows slowly
in ever-widening circles of acceptance,
until there is no soul left outside
the divine circumference of the universe.
When you're just like everybody else,
you've nothing to offer other than your conformity.
