Breath

Breath

Easy come, so hard to let go.

If you've ever had
the breath knocked out,
you remember the silence
of being in that vacuum
between inhale and exhale,
while feeling a great terror,
breath might never return.

When breath finally did return,
relief came in huge gulps of air
and a flash flood of emotion,
from the salty tears of relief,
to a painful new understanding
passage between dimensions
may be quite difficult.

A human being is only breath and shadow.
~ Sophocles
