Listening?

Listening?

There's so much to hear.

Is anyone listening
to anyone?

Is anyone listening
to me?

Am I listening
to you,
and to myself?

I wonder,
where goes our words,
our thoughts and actions.
They don't just disappear,
fading into inconsequence.

Something somewhere
must be listening to us,
holding all this buzzing
in a volatile bundle
of creative energy
called prayer.

If we don't listen to everything,
how can we ever perceive
a presence called God?

I'm always relieved when someone is delivering a eulogy
and I realize I'm listening to it.
