Songbirds

Songbirds

Tweedle-lee-deedle-lee-dee

Death
is our reply
to the soul's request
for surrender.

Right after
we become songbirds
so that we may remember
to pray constantly,
until the weight of each word
far exceeds their number
within the silent space
between worlds.

My love instructs me:

Pray for patience,
then let it come in
through that opening
you left unguarded.

When it arrives,
greet patience
and let it fill you
with joyous song.

Have patience.
All things are difficult before they become easy.
