A Simple Prayer

A Simple Prayer

It begins with humility.

I wake in the night
to offer this simple prayer:

Lord,
teach me to pray,
how to offer my heart,
and my soul to you;
to know that I am heard
.

Then come morning,
I pray for an awakened faith,
to believe
when I have no evidence,
to trust
when I am not trustworthy,
to let go
when I am in control of my life.

Prayer begins where human capacity ends.
