Ambiguity
Ambiguity
…can be a great comfort.
She says,
He is my heart.
Her words seize my soul,
the metaphor rings so true.
He is my heart too,
and nothing seems more tenuous
than the loss of heart,
our lifeline to transcendence.
I close my eyes and sigh,
I can't take this anymore.
Gently,
my stillness reveals
anger and grief,
my obstinate refusal
to accept any loss,
my powerlessness to feel
and to not seek remedy
for each tiny suffering.
The meaning of my pain,
though ambiguous,
compels a peaceful search
for a deeper understanding,
and the sacred duty
to keep my heart strong.
Neurosis is the inability to tolerate ambiguity.
~ Sigmund FreudThe awareness of the ambiguity
of one's highest achievements
(as well as one's deepest failures)
is a definite symptom of maturity.
~ Paul Tillich
