A Call to Relax

A Call to Relax

...and be present to life.

I'm too quick to blame
a long day for my problems,
when more often it's just me
who's not getting the message.

Then I'll take my dog for a walk
and in the trees I'll hear voices
lovingly urging me to relax,
and be gentler with myself.

Afterwards I'm able to allow
those most delicate feelings,
I once refused to acknowledge,
to spill out over these pages.

Slowly I am learning,
even amidst the chaos,
there is plenty of patience,
as well as courage and love,
for me to rely on.

Why are there trees I never walk under
but large and melodious thoughts descend upon me?
~ Walt Whitman
