Moving Day

Moving Day

...a Christmas story of sorts...

Click-click-click, buzzzzzzz-click.

The battery is definitely dead.
I left the truck lights on.

The great hulking moving truck
just sat there motionless,
like a giant chest filled
with old and neglected stuff.

I quickly opened the hood
and scanned for battery posts,
then pointed out the positive
before stepping away to watch
as my friend quickly connected
a lithium battery charger.

A second later he was back in the cab,
so I stepped back further a bit nervous
about the great possibility of sparks
igniting the grease and oil.

After two or three cranks of the engine
the lithium battery confirmed my fears,
its case bursting in a puff of white smoke
before suddenly combusting into flames.

Fifteen minutes later
the fire was safely extinguished,
and the firefighters already packing up.

One of them shouted from the truck,
You're gonna need more than a jump!

We all laughed heartily
knowing disaster had been avoided.

Christmas is the day that holds all time together.
