Ordinary People

Ordinary People

...show us the way home.

Some people seem
so ordinary.

But then someone will say
something quite extraordinary
and their words will penetrate,
cutting across the millennia
as they defy accepted truths,
like that our lives are linear.

Hear this
that I first heard today:

I woke up in a drunkard prison
and I knew the same person
who had brought me here
must also bring me home.

What strange beings we are
that sitting in hell at the bottom of the dark
we're afraid of our own immortality.
~ Rumi
