The Silent Songs

The Silent Songs

…we're all singing.

Surely there are silent songs
sung everywhere simultaneously
on Sundays and Wednesdays,
on Tuesdays and Saturdays,
by sopranos and tenors
on empty sidewalks,
in suburban forests,
and in the cars stalled
on crowded super highways.

Surely there's a silent song
in a story that makes us sad,
in a kiss of sweet chocolate,
or in a silly little poem
seeming to suggest
the whole world is singing
from the same song book.

Being.

I don't sing because I'm happy;
I'm happy because I sing.
~ William James
