From the Inside

From the Inside

...I come a-knockin'.

I call on you
hoping you'll call
right back to me
with only a short delay,
maybe like an echo
reverberating through
microphone and speaker,
often a bit annoying
yet also exciting.

I can barely remember
when I last heard an echo
outside of my phone.

I was likely in some canyon,
an empty room in a museum,
perchance some gothic cathedral,
or most likely somewhere all alone,
just knocking and knocking,
waiting for someone to hear
the reverberating knocks
echoing in my head.

I have lived on the lip
of insanity, wanting to know reasons,
knocking on a door. It opens.
I've been knocking from the inside!
