Minding My Own Business

I get chastened
every time I try to get
to the bottom of love.

There is no bottom!

My clumsy searching
across rightful boundaries
always leads me nowhere
and leaves me wounded.

I look everywhere,
because I fear the truth is
I'll never-ever see
all there is to be seen,
nor everything out there
looking back at me.

But now it's undeniable.
I've got no business rummaging
through anyone else's darkness,
searching for a satisfying answer,
hoping desperately to find love
in places it cannot grow.

So I say this simple prayer:

Let me feel the rain
and know that I am water.

Let me feel the sun
and know that I am fire.

Let me feel the earth
and know that I am loved.

My own life deserves my attention.
