Quiet Explosions

Today is my umpteenth great awakening.

But who's to say for sure?
And who's even counting,
besides me and a few hopeful voyeurs?

God surely isn't counting,
watching me stand by the shore,
ever-reluctant to wade in.

I feel like a passive observer
needing to be reminded:

You're all in!

A great awakening is a seismic shift
in both thought and consciousness.

It comes unpredictably,
yet even more frequently
as lost truths are reclaimed.

Life is chaotic and tumultuous.
Before a new life can begin
death is assured.

So I pray I may allow myself
to be consumed in the fires
of each great awakening.

As I lived up to the highest light I had, higher and higher light came to me.
