Rock Bottom

After my divorce I tried
to burn several years of my life.
That’s about when I gave up
thinking in terms of forever.

Shortly after Don’s heart attack,
he began weeping regularly.
My feelings aren’t as tight,
he’d say as the tears flowed.

Thank God the big lessons
are fireproof and will wait
patiently in the shadows,
until we’re ready to learn.

We simply can’t allow rock bottom
to become our bottom line.
So go ahead, set your own terms,
but then let them fall apart.

I’m not saying don’t make plans
or maybe buy some insurance.
Just be flexible and remember life
must be lived to be understood.

The bottom line is to have fun and enjoy life.
