Take What You Need

Take what you need,
but leave something behind.
The more you hoard,
even more will be taken away.

It’s a Dickensian story,
yet truer today than ever.
You may know it experientially.
So why not reverse the flow?

Give as much as you have to give.
Then when your light begins to fade,
your soul will become so light
it may easily fly away.

The man Dickens, whom the world at large thought it knew, stood for all the Victorian virtues - probity, kindness, hard work, sympathy for the down-trodden, the sanctity of domestic life - even as his novels exposed the violence, hypocrisy, greed, and cruelty of the Victorian age.
