My Heart at Peace

My Heart at Peace

The choice is mine.

In my chest
I carry a glowing ember
called anger.
It lies in wait
for a breath of oxygen
which will bring me
to the full flame of rage.

But this morning
I refuse to join
in needless suffering.
I rest at peace
in the space between doing
and all that is undone.

I call this place Serenity,
and would dare say I know it
as the confounding space
where even God lets go.

So the darkness shall be the light,
and the stillness the dancing.
T. S. Elliot
