Prayers

Prayers

They'll change you.

This poem is another prayer
for all those days
which add up to a lifetime
of prayers spoken
but mostly unspoken
in long sighs
and eyes focused
into the middle distance
where uncertainty looms
behind large objects
just out of focus.

I pray myself awake each morning
and then to sleep at night.
I pray for you,
for him, her, them, we.
But most of all I pray for me,
that I may remain open
in both the light and the dark
of my tiny existence
always just beyond
my human comprehension.

Never forget the three powerful resources
you always have available to you:
love, prayer, and forgiveness.
