He Can Be Taught

He Can Be Taught

In the meantime...

Have patience with him.
He can be taught to love,
though you and I
will not be his teachers.

Love will come to him
after a long sleepless night
in the blinding light
of an oncoming car.

Love will come to him
in the cries of his infant
and the genuine kindness
of a passing stranger.

Love will come to him
like a spring flood
drowning his soul
in benevolent waters.

Love will come to him
like nightfall in the desert,
a respite from the sun
 yet full of mystery.

Love will come to him.
Love will come to him.
Let us get out of the way
so love may do its thing.

Have patience with all things,
but first of all with yourself.
