Giants

Giants

They're not all athletes.

Our neediness
does not precede love.
It is the other way around.
And it is not our desire
creating this incessant longing,
but the refusal to suffer
pain beyond meaning,
pain beyond comprehension.

I say this humbly
and with only meager experience
to bolster my quivering voice.

Still I speak with conviction
while standing on the shoulders
of our departed human giants
who've traversed space and time
to share with us
the beauty and the wisdom
of the stars.
