Sacred Space

Sacred Space

...a place to call home.

My wife and I
just bought a house.
I am excited.
I am grateful.
I am eager to move.

Even more,
I am overwhelmed
by this great responsibility
and by my bewilderment
about what it truly means
to commit myself to
a house and a community
someone else called home
for nearly fifty years.

I've only just learned
how to let go,
so I fear being held, or
again grasping too tightly.

Thus I pray in the faith
peace will enter my soul
through each deep breath,
and that our new home
may become a sacred space
until the day when
we follow the calling
through the next threshold
of our lives.

A house is not a home
unless it contains food and fire
for the mind as well as the body.
