Passion

Passion

...is beyond purpose.

I hear the voice,
echoing here, there
and everywhere
so as not to be found,
yet awake and alive,
arising from my soul
and bearing wisdom
from a source much deeper
than my critical mind
can fathom.

It says many things,
but ever reminds me
not to cling too tightly
to my precious life.

Today the voice chides
with a quick yes
as I close my eyes
and wonder aloud
whether my passions
will inevitably invite death.

I shudder.
The voice adds:
In death
you disappear,
but your passions
move along
.

On Life's vast ocean diversely we sail,
Reason the card, but Passion is the gale.
