By Leaving

By Leaving

...everything changes.

By leaving
I learned why
I so badly
desired to stay
at home.

By leaving
I let go
of what held me
fixed in thought,
bound by space.

By leaving
I encountered
all those things
I was too afraid
to befriend.

By leaving
I burned my plans
to follow a predictable path
then entrusted my life
to a higher power.

I think part of being an adult
is leaving the fairy tale behind.
~ Rashida Jones
