Belonging

Belonging

It's just one big party.

Quit stealing
from the only home
you will ever have.
Not only are you welcome here,
but you belong here.

Don't burst through
some imaginary door,
then demand your share
and a whole lot more.

And don't sneak through
some open window
to pocket a few items
you can pawn for money.

Come straight to the table.
Sit amongst your peers,
those bodies and spirits
who teach you to love.

Look around you,
then hold everything
as you would cradle
a tiny new baby.

Now that you know
exactly who you are,
allow yourself to dream
of who you may yet become.

You're imperfect, and you're wired for struggle,
but you are worthy of love and belonging.
