...to your better angels.
You're too aggressive,
says the voice in my head.
God only maims,
it's you who does the killing.
I'm jolted awake!
Such a strange daydream,
but it's now up to me
not to make it a nightmare.
Darkness reveals great truths,
like the fact a spiritual life
never needs polishing,
and those echoing voices
beyond our consciousness,
are really warning us
not to become the victims
of our own violence.
All of us have a home address,
yet few ever go there.
We'd rather the voices not find us
in such a vulnerable place.
Older and wiser voices can help you find the right path,
if you are only willing to listen.
