Unitive Love

...the real, real thing.

Love without cause
is the real thing.
It is more eternal
than any rock
you can build upon.

The stuff you must earn
is not true love.
So don't try peddling it
to God or to anyone else
who knows the real thing.

It almost seems silly
for me to mention
something this central
to the creation of our Universe,
but for the fact as humans,
we must devote our lives
to the task of rediscovering
the inherent and unitive love
which connects us to everything.

One of the main tasks of theology
is to find words that do not divide but unite,
that do not create conflict but unity,
that do not hurt but heal.
~ Henri Nouwen
