Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace

How sweet the sound!

Scotland the Brave softens my heart
as does the Star Spangled Banner.
Yet neither can summon my tears
like Amazing Grace on the bagpipes.

Today there is no flag,
save the white flag of surrender,
which means more to me
than that amazing grace
which saved a wretch like me.

He who learns must suffer.
And even in our sleep
pain that cannot forget falls
drop by drop upon the heart,
and in our own despair,
against our will,
comes wisdom to us
by the awful grace of God.
~ Aeschylus
