Athena

Athena

Feminine Wisdom.

I must first say a prayer
to the angels of lightheartedness,
that they may brighten my mood
and bring laughter to my spirit
as I write these words.

Some mornings the tired cynic
within my weary bones
wakes before those better spirits
can lift up my gaze
to the wide open possibilities
made visible in the clouds.

Though still dreaming,
I go to the edge of the woods
where I seek the tree of knowledge
and find Athena waiting for me.

Come,
she says.
Have a seat.
Let us both sit
in peace and quiet
beneath this great tree.

God may be in the details,
but the goddess is in the questions.
Once we begin to ask them,
there's no turning back.
