Going the distance...

You and I
will both be home tomorrow.
It's always a short distance
we must travel back to ourselves.
Only we don't know it,
and therefore become lost,
forgetting the way home
by placing our belonging
in externalities,
like the whims of others.

Let us now tell ourselves
exactly what we need to hear
so that we may saddle up
and be ready for the sunrise.
