Intimacy

Intimacy

...that deep longing within us all.

I am often reminded
prayer is a waking state.

God speaks to me
when I'm willing to listen,
like one evening in Texas
when a man named David
shared with our small group,
for him intimacy means
into-me-see.

I chuckled.
How cute and clever.
Still I had no idea
what he truly meant
until I learned to pray,
then began to see myself
in everyone and everything.

Everyone and everything,
even those way down
at the end of all roads
are only longing to see
and to be seen.

If fear is the great enemy of intimacy,
love is its true friend.
