We Belong

We Belong

Don't fight it.

We belong
right here,
right now.
Simply being
means something
nothingness
cannot comprehend.

Short or tall,
no matter
our gender,
our so-called race,
the religion
of our parents,
the persons
we may kiss,
how we talk,
the company
we choose to keep -

None of this matters
here, now,
anywhere, anytime
we can see
ourselves reflected
in the face of another.

The essential dilemma of my life is between
my deep desire to belong and my suspicion of belonging.
