For All Those Days

For All Those Days

Say it with me.

For all those days
so long and arduous,
requiring a strong drink
before they can be loosened
and then hastily taken off
like a restrictive tie or bra,
or uncomfortable shoes.

For all those days
which spill into evenings
and are carried off to bed
where they pollute our dreams
with acid-trippy visions
just real enough to frighten us
into questioning our sanity.

For all those days
that bleed into one another
in a long succession we call
same shit - different day,
but eventually do give way
to the turning page
of season and sentiment,
thus revealing life anew.

It's ironic that in our culture
everyone's biggest complaint is
about not having enough time;
yet nothing terrifies us more
than the thought of eternity.
