Alcohol

Alcohol

...and a glass of water.

I don't smoke.
Never did.
But I do drink,
though I don't enjoy
being drunk,
or even light-headed.

One drink relaxes
and even delights
once I surrender
to its potent recipe.

Yet my body won't forget
there's neither wine nor beer
sufficient to fill the hole
in a drunkard's soul.

Drowned in a vat of whiskey...
Oh Death, where is thy sting?
W. C. Fields
