After the Curtain

After the Curtain

...what will you do?

Do you stumble
into the New Year,
like a runner falling
across the finish line?

Or do you burst forth,
shooting out of the gate,
like a thoroughbred horse
at Churchill Downs?

Every year ends
with new beginnings,
but also begins
with old endings.

For some it's a time
to organize and reorder,
and maybe do something novel.

For others it's a time
to downsize and liquidate,
and maybe let go completely.

Write it on your heart that every day
is the best day in the year.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
