Right Now
...is where I want my focus.
When I truly relax
I'm able to recall yesterday
with a little more perspective,
as if I'm reading the news.
Yesterday's story begins
with a long and hot drive
through sweltering humidity
to join in my nephew's party,
and while I'm there resisting
risking my neck in the bouncy-house,
eating cupcakes with blue icing,
and drinking too much bourbon beer
while bullshitting with the big boys,
until the evening came to rescue me
with some much-needed calm
right before bed.
All-in-all it was a good time,
one of the many thousands or so
I've been lucky to have before,
and must now try and let go
to make room for more.
But today I'm in need
all of the space available,
within my head and my heart,
for what's happening right now.
