You are going to die.
Make believe is for children
who are trying on the many roles
they may decide to wear
on their journey through life.
But you don't need to pretend.
For better or worse you know
exactly who you are,
and who you aren't,
and have also taken stock
of your successes and regrets.
You may love children,
including the one you once were,
but you can no longer make believe
the life you know is infinite
and will go with you
into eternity.
A child looks upon an empty horizon,
but you see a ship fast approaching.
One day soon,
you will take your sacred wounds
and board this ship on a voyage
through and beyond death,
into new life.
