How Silly

How Silly

...I am.

How silly
all will one day seem:
our beliefs and mottoes,
our clichés and customs,
our laws and traditions.

In the long run
none of these can hold
even as much water
as an open hand.

And already none of them
can deliver us through
to another lifetime.

So I keep edging
ever closer to the fire,
allowing it singe my hair,
reminding me to live peacefully
on the red hot edges
of my true being.

Do the best you can,
and don't take life too serious.
~ Will Rogers
