Life Demands

Life Demands

...a certain kind of unknowing.

Once you see something,
you'll always see it.
It's much the same
with the other senses.

What you hear and smell,
both taste and touch,
becomes part of you,
a permanent knowing.

So why are we surprised
when life demands from us
a certain kind of unknowing?

At some point we must unsee
and look again with new eyes.

We must stop tuning in
to those same old voices,
and listen to someone new.

We must allow our feelings to pass,
and experience true emptiness.

There's no doubt
I could say it much better,
if only I'd let go
of the same old words.

The only thing worse than being blind
is having sight but no vision.
~ Helen Keller
