New Meaning

Sometimes an old melody
will come back to bite me,
bringing with it lyrics
I seem to be hearing
for the very first time.
The familiar tune
doesn't bother knocking,
just comes right on in,
sits in front of me and says,
"Listen again."
This time the words
shoot through me like electricity,
traveling along all the vines
which have grown out of my heart
over the past twenty years.
My soul is an unkempt garden
wanting me to grow wild
by experiencing my life again,
this time more aware
of who I truly am.
