I Am Overcome

I Am Overcome

...by the silence.

What must be said
is often unwritten
 and rarely spoken.

Therefore we must live
from inside the inevitable truth
which begins at our birth,
and accelerates throughout
our difficult initiations,
from lust and desire,
through feast and famine,
from loss and death,
even through long periods
of bitterness and despair
preceding our return
to innocence.

We must find the sources
of those stories and songs
which halt and disarm,
rendering us speechless.

There in the deafening silence
we encounter God.

After silence,
that which comes nearest
to expressing the inexpressible
is music.
~ Aldous Huxley
