Once You See

Once You See

...it's hard to unsee.

Any drunk will tell us
they drink for reasons
we can all understand.

Most truths are bitter,
hard enough to swallow,
and harder to accept.

I must accept my life
will never be lived perfectly,
knowing I'll always struggle
not to judge others.

I find it so easy
not taking illicit drugs,
or drinking to excess.

Yet I struggle mightily
to suppress the rage I feel
at my own powerlessness
to change the way things are.

We must let go of the life we have planned,
so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.
~ Joseph Campbell
