Last Night

Last Night

...I slept terribly.

I laid awake for hours
worrying about everything
that will surely happen
but in unexpected ways.

Anxiety is paralyzing.
It shortens my breath,
suffocating my soul.

If I can't breathe
then my soul can't sing
and bring me back
into a peaceful sleep,
with timeless hymns
that sweetly remind me
everything is exactly
as it should be.

A crust eaten in peace
is better than a banquet partaken in anxiety.
~ Aesop
